SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule plus local supplement
FLSA STATUS: Exempt; Full-time temporary
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: N/a
WORK WEEK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday; some evenings and weekends as needed
WORK HOURS: 40
NUMBER OF MONTHS PER YEAR: 10: Grant funded for the 2025-2026 school year
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The academic interventionist helps teachers research and implement new ideas, provide resources, or co-teach lessons to support struggling students and help better prepare students for math transition from 8th to 9th grade. The interventionist will implement research based strategies to support curriculum alignment and the MTSS process. At times, the interventionist may be working with students who have deficit skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of effective instructional models that lead to increased student achievement
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Considerable human relations and human development skills
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Good technical skills with technology and presentation tools
- Ability to use common office machines and popular computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs
- Ability to collect and analyze statistical data to support student growth
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from that information
- Ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in school core content areas or related field
- Proven record of excellence as a classroom teacher with predictive characteristics of an outstanding administrator
- Five (5) or more years of middle and/or high school math classroom experience in a public school setting
- Experience as a presenter for staff development programs
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
National Board Teacher Certification
Experience serving as in a leading instructional role such as an instructional coach, director or assistant principal
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure teachers and principals are familiar with any changes to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study regarding academic areas
- Work with staff to develop a plan to improve academic achievement for Math
- Designs and implements academic interventions using research-based methodology in math.
- Promote use of consistent instructional framework and research-based strategies
- Able to troubleshoot deficit skills and work with students to correct them
- Knowledge of MTSS and strategies to support students who need supplemental and intensive support
- Support school-based professional development
- Make regular classroom visits to support instructional improvement
- Work with staff and schools to address learning needs of all math students
- Coordinate with other departments, offices, and organizations to best serve student needs
- Provide customized professional development to meet unique student needs and support differentiated instruction
- Participate in regular professional development to improve knowledge and skills
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal

Physical Demands- Light physical work required occasionally up to 20 pounds lifting
Work Environment- Inside with some occasional outside environments; direct contact with staff, students, and parents
