JOB DESCRIPTION

K-12 Curriculum Director 

 

Work Week Schedule: Monday – Friday; must be available some nights and weekends Work Hours: 40

Months per year: 12

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in school administration or related field
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic educational initiatives
  • Demonstrated success in managing large budgets
  • Demonstrated success as a school principal or department lead

 CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • North Carolina Administrator License
  • Have appropriate maintenance of administrative continuing education requirements
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle license administered by the State of North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in Education, School Administration, or Public Administration
  • Curriculum/Instructional Specialist Certification
  • Administrator Certification

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The person in this position shall assist with promoting high standards and expectations for all students through coaching and professional development with administrators and staff.

 

The person in this position will encourage students by helping them understand the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility for their education, and demonstrating pride in it.

 

The person in this position shall be able to communicate openly and clearly with school personnel, students, and parents, as appropriate, about students’ academic progress.

 

The person in this position shall support other staff to ensure that students’ personal and social needs are met for school.

 

The person in this position shall organize and maintain files necessary for students’ records and program success.

 

The person in this position shall serve as a school-community liaison by attending appropriate community meetings.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Instructional Leadership:

  • Thorough knowledge of PreK-12 curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of school system budgeting process
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver programming that drives improved academic performance for all student populations and knows effective practice for differentiating instruction
  • Strong knowledge of high-quality instructional practices and the ability to lead others to implement these practices consistently across classrooms and school sites
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent execution and project management skills, including attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to balance the big picture with detailed steps to reach the end goal, and ability to balance multiple projects under tight
  • Provide information, support, and suggestions for the classroom teacher regarding EL students

Public Relations:

  • Ability to prepare, read, interpret, and comprehend a variety of job-related forms, terminology, reports, spreadsheets, mathematical formulas, maps, plans, records, documentation, and correspondence as required by the job and to communicate findings effectively
  • Assists in the communication between the school, teachers, and parents to support student success
  • Establishes a professional rapport with students, staff, and community members to earn their respect
  • Builds coalitions and works collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at all levels, including but not limited to district personnel, students, families, communities, and/or advocacy groups

Essential Duties:

  1. Supervise Curriculum and Instruction,
  2. Professional Development to improve school achievement
  3. Provide vision and strategic direction for the district’s curriculum, instruction, and school improvement initiatives, aligned with the long-term strategy to improve student achievement and narrow the achievement gap between racial, ethnic, and economic
  4. Reduce the variability in curricula, instruction, and assessment and implement a vertically aligned curriculum and assessment system
  5. Monitor accountability systems and evaluation rubrics and leverage data to inform strategic direction
  6. Collaborate with schools to develop instructional programs and implement reform models designed to improve the achievement of all students
  7. Provide direction in and maintain current knowledge of educational reform and instructional best practices in all aspects of PreK-12 public education
  8. Ensure district compliance with State regulations and policies in monitoring, assessment, and reporting for all academic programs
  9. Direct the planning, organization, administration, and fiscal management of all aspects of the district’s curriculum and instruction program  
  1. Prepares and delivers written and oral presentations regarding the academic program and accountability to the Board of Education, principals, staff, parents, and community groups
  2. Attends regular meetings of the Board of Education as required  
  1. Effectively conducts staff meetings as appropriate
  2. Supervises and conducts evaluations, assigns special duties, monitors attendance and travel reports, and grants leave for direct subordinates
  3. Provides leadership and supervision to central office staff and coordinates efforts with principals to ensure the successful operation of instructional programs in the district schools
  4. Provides input on professional development activities for the district
  5. Monitors the latest research, trends, and development in education and interprets these matters as appropriate and necessary
  6. Provides leadership for the district accreditation process
  7. Coordinates the School Improvement Plan process
  8. Oversees various budgets related to the instructional program and professional development
  9. Plans and supervises the Mentor Program
  10. Plans and supervises support programs for teachers seeking initial, advanced, and renewal levels of National
    Board certification
  11. Plans and supervises the instructional development and induction for the Beginning Teacher Support
    program
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands- Light physical work required occasionally up to 20 pounds of lifting

Work Environment- Inside with some occasional outside environments; direct contact with staff, students, and parents
