Intern - Renewable Energy Development [Houston, TX]

Scope of Position

EDF Renewables North America is a market-leading independent power producer and service provider with over 35 years of experience. We deliver grid-scale power: wind (onshore and offshore), solar photovoltaic, and storage projects; distribution-scale power: solar and storage; asset optimization: technical, operational, and commercial expertise to maximize the performance of generating projects, and onsite solutions, through the Company’s PowerFlex affiliate, offering a full suite of onsite energy solutions for commercial and industrial customers: solar, storage, EV charging, energy management systems, and microgrids. Our South Central Development Region is seeking a graduate level intern to help support the team's overal development strategy. 

Position is based in downtown Houston, TX.  

Work Mode: Hybrid.

Responsibilities

The internship focuses on supporting the Development Strategy team in enhancing current competitive research and analysis methods. This includes conducting industry/market research and analysis, as well as analyzing the current renewable project pipeline and comparing it to competitor projects. The individual in this role will also be responsible for streamlining the existing research and analysis process and developing an improved method to research, analyze, and benchmark development projects. The overall objective is to contribute to the development and execution of comprehensive plans that identify, evaluate, and implement renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, or storage. This includes various stages such as site selection, feasibility analysis, permitting, financing, construction, and operation, all while aligning with the organization's sustainability goals and market opportunities.

The intern will interact with Project Developers, Directors, specialists, and external consultants to prepare for and manage site land acquisition, lease negotiation, site surveys, permitting, marketing, and/or pricing. The intern will also coordinate and cooperate as needed with regional and corporate teams in Resource Assessment, Legal, Land/Title, Transmission, Engineering, Accounting, Project Finance, Valuation & Transactions, O&M, and Asset Management.

Target Pay Range: $20 - $45 per hour

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled or a recent graduate of a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
• Graduate-level studies in Engineering, Geography, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, or Sustainable Development-related fields.
• Prior experience in renewable energy, investment banking, or management consulting is a plus.
• Available for full-time hours in  downtown Houston during the summer months.

Skills and Experience:

• Fundamental understanding of business development concepts, with the capacity to merge investment thesis with relevant renewable energy domain knowledge.
• Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills; adept at adapting message, tone, style, and format for diverse internal and external audiences.
• Proficient in integrating, analyzing, and interpreting GIS data in Google Earth and ArcGIS Online, and generating maps to support idea generation.
• Capable of analyzing complex problems and recommending a course of action.
• Demonstrated aptitude for project management; working knowledge of renewable energy preferred.
• Skilled in identifying and characterizing risks and uncertainties, and developing mitigation action plans.
• Highly motivated, self-starter, and collaborative team player.
• Capable of conducting independent market, title, and technology research.
• Able to read environmental reports and develop plans of action based on the results.
• Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
• Able to maintain confidentiality and work with minimal supervision.
• Interested in a career in the renewable energy market.
