Salary Range: The full pay range for this role is $105,100 - $175,100 annually. We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and/leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.

 

Scope of Job: The Senior Wind Energy Analyst is responsible for analyzing measured wind data and producing energy estimates for EDF Renewable Energy’s North American wind project portfolio. This may include both on and offshore wind farms.  The employee will work in a collaborative, open, team of technical analysts and must possess the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment. In a senior analyst role, the employee will be expected to help define technical best-practices and train others in their use. The incumbent will be capable of independent decision making and project management.  Strong communication skills are required to disseminate results and perceived risks to senior management and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

 

65% Resource Assessment  

  • Estimate energy production for wind projects under development using EDFR methodology and tools (Python, Windographer, Openwind, Excel) 
  • Design turbine layouts to optimize energy production and minimize construction costs  
  • Analyze and solve resource assessment and development challenges  
  • Maintain current industry knowledge and cutting-edge resource assessment technologies  
  • Present analysis results to teammates in a challenging, peer review setting 
  • Support sound propagation and shadow flicker studies as needed  
  • Communication of site characteristics, energy production potential, and risks to members of the Senior Management Team and Regional Developers  
  • Support the key project development functions for all projects, including financial feasibility analysis, permitting, engineering, due diligence, project legal review, etc.  
  • Support Project Managers with new project RFPs and bid activities 
  • Able to handle non-standard analysis and deliverables for complex, custom cases 

 15% Mentor & Train  

  • Mentor and train junior team members 
  • Assist in onboarding of new employees 
  • Develop best practices for workflow 
  • Review analysis and deliverables of team members 

15% Efficiency, Methodology, and R&D initiatives  

  • Lead site suitability research and methods improvements 
  • Due diligence on potential new models or software 
  • Contribute to R&D initiatives in collaboration with Director or Principal Assessment Engineer 

5% Other duties as assigned

Supervision of Others: None

 

Working Conditions: 95% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 5% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors’ and/or internal customers’ sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in wind resource assessment 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering, meteorology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related field required 
  • Master’s Degree preferred; experience in lieu of Master’s considered 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Skilled in Python and SQL; additional computational programming skills are also preferred 
  • Experience in operational assessment and resource assessment of wind projects 
  • Experience in wind assessment software (Windographer, Openwind, Windpro, etc.)  
  • Highly motivated self-starter, ability to work well with others and be a team player  
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively about scientific and technical issues 
  • Good organizational and communications skills 

Physical Requirements: Occasional field work or site visits may be required including walking or hiking in complex terrain under a variety of weather conditions.
