We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Estimator to lead the estimating department within our Civil and Environmental division. This role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the estimating process, including bid preparation, cost analysis, and risk assessment. The Chief Estimator will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and competitiveness of our bids while maintaining profitability and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the estimating team, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development.
- Develop accurate cost estimates for civil and environmental construction projects, including site development, infrastructure, water treatment, environmental remediation, and other related projects.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and contracts to ensure full understanding of scope and requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs, labor and material pricing, and subcontractor/vendor solicitation.
- Analyze historical data and current market conditions to develop competitive and cost-effective bids.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to refine estimates and address project challenges.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with project costs and execution.
- Lead pre-bid meetings and communicate with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to clarify project requirements.
- Prepare detailed bid packages and ensure timely submission of proposals.
- Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in construction estimating methodologies.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of estimating experience in civil and environmental construction.
- Proven leadership experience managing an estimating team.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Timberline, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working with public and private sector clients is a plus.
