This position oversees the development and application of policies and procedures that affect the student body in the areas of Student Development and Student Success. Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, plans, organizes, and directs a comprehensive student services program at the college, including student development, such as counseling, registration, student engagement, retention, student success services; and Student Affairs, such as student government, student grievance, and the disciplinary process. Provides counseling services that support students in their personal, academic, social, and career needs.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSCoordinate with the Vice President of Student Services on a variety of personnel activities for student services functions including, but not limited to, a program for staff development, and personnel activities for Student Services. Oversee and supervise day-to-day operations of the Student Services division on the Rocky Mount campus and the Academic Success Centers on the Rocky Mount and Tarboro campus. Responsible for adhering to safety and security standards for the Rocky Mount campus as outlined by the college’s Safety and Security committee.Participate in institutional planning in coordination with the Vice President of Student Services and the Director Institutional Effectiveness.Evaluate performance of counselors in student services; collaborate with Dean of Enrollment and Financial Aid to evaluate performance of administrative assistant for admissions and financial aid personnel on the Rocky Mount campus.Support student appeals, discipline, and grievance processes. Responsible for the oversight of the Maxient student conduct system. Handles student complaints and student conduct violations for the College via Maxient.Responsible for oversight of the college’s Title III grant scheduled to end Fall 2026.Coordinate all counseling services and tutorial activities at the College.Coordinate all student organizations and student engagement activities for the College.Disseminate pertinent information to the student body ongoing from the Student Services division through email and social media platforms.Provide counseling for prospective students and current students that will assist them in the pursuit of their career and educational goals.Assist new students in registering for courses to meet their educational objectives.Facilitate admissions for Dental Hygiene and all other collaborative programs.Ensure appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities along with the Student Support Counselor.Coordinate annual graduation exercises and other social events sponsored by the college.Plan and execute counseling and career events such as the Job Fair, Summer Counselors Institute, Transfer Fairs, CACRAO along with the College’s Career Services Counselor/Recruiter.Participate in the marketing strategies for the College in conjunction with the Dean of Enrollment and Financial Aid, the Career Services Counselor/Recruiter and other departments such as the Public Information Officer, Online Content Manager and instructional personnel.Serve on the college’s Title IX team as needed. PreferredMaster's degree in Adult Education, Guidance and Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology; plus more than 5 years of work experience consisting of daily, direct contact with students in a community college setting with experience in advising, counseling, registration and student engagement. In addition, qualified applicants must have a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
