Job Responsibilities:
- Provides direct and personalized instruction to PK-5 students integrating information literacy, media literacy, technology standards, digital citizenship, and Montana Common Core Standards through the robust use of library resources and instructional technology.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and other staff to ensure library media and technology instruction is tied to curriculum standards and enhances classroom learning.
- Promotes and teaches the full range of information literacy and media literacy skills including reading programs, literature appreciation, information seeking skills, and responsible use of information technology.
- Provides opportunities for K-5 students to become proficient in keyboarding and other essential technology skills, outlined in the standards.
- Maintains a diverse library collection that supports the learning needs of students and staff, aligns to the curriculum, considering the wide range of abilities, learning styles, and needs of the library's patrons.
- Assists with the acquisition, preparation, and circulation of instructional resources for the library collection.
- Provides mentoring and training to instructional staff to help in the full integration of technology and library resources in all K-5 classrooms.
- Assists in the development, implementation, evaluation, and refinement of programs, services, and initiatives related to technology and library media integration.
- Works with building principal, instructional coach, IT Department and other staff members to enhance school-wide goals through the integration of technology and library resources.
- Supports school-wide technology assessment systems in collaboration with instructional leaders, administration and staff.
- Provides support for technology requests and assists with upkeep of technology systems in the library and throughout the building.
- Models effective instruction incorporating technology and library media integration.
- Establishes effective classroom management, safety procedures, and behavior expectations in the library media center.
- Supports students by implementing IEPs, 504s and SOS plans in the library media setting.
- Actively pursues and participates in library, educational, and technology professional learning opportunities.
- Submits annual library report to building principal.
- Attends building and district meetings, as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the building administration or department head.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to utilize technology tools/applications, including but not limited to: interactive whiteboards, iPads, Windows and Mac computers, Chromebooks, document cameras, video production, podcasting, circulating software, etc.
- Ability to implement standard-based instruction and assessment.
- Ability to use technology to enhance instruction and communication.
- Knowledge of current ideas, trends, methods, programs, materials, and equipment for technology and library media integration.
- Ability to work as a contributing member of effective teaching teams.
- Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, and parents.
- Demonstrates communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
- Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education; AND,
- State of Montana Educator license with appropriate K-12 Library endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Recent successful experience in elementary library and technology education.
- Recent successful classroom experience in an elementary setting.
- Background and experience working with computers in a network environment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift, and carry items up to 40 pounds.
