Onsite Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Sports Day Camp

- Full Day: 8:30/9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday

Edgewood Summer Camp, set in the beautiful surroundings of Edgewood Golf & Recreation in River Vale, NJ, offers a high-energy sports-focused program for children aged 4-12. Our camp emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and fitness, while also including art, yoga, and special events. We are dedicated to providing a fun, inclusive, and safe environment where campers can learn new skills, build confidence, and make lasting memories.
Position Overview
We are looking for a qualified and experienced Onsite EMT to ensure the health and well-being of our campers and staff throughout the summer. The Onsite EMT will provide immediate medical care, assess injuries and illnesses, and coordinate emergency responses when needed. This role requires strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. The ideal candidate must hold the necessary certifications according to New Jersey EMT protocols and be comfortable in an outdoor camp environment. Full 11-week commitment is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer immediate medical care for campers and staff, including first aid, treating minor injuries, and responding to medical emergencies.
- Evaluate and assess illnesses and injuries to determine the appropriate medical actions.
- Maintain detailed and accurate medical records, documenting treatments, incidents, and interventions.
- Ensure the first aid station is stocked with necessary medical supplies and remains organized.
- Follow New Jersey EMT protocols and camp safety policies at all times.
- Collaborate with local EMS teams and coordinate emergency responses if further medical assistance is needed.
- Educate camp staff on first aid, safety procedures, and injury prevention.
- Manage medication administration per parental instructions and medical documentation.
- Observe and monitor campers for potential health concerns, and report issues to the Camp Director.
- Work closely with camp leadership to foster a safe and supportive environment for all campers and staff.
Qualifications
- Valid EMT certification in compliance with New Jersey state protocols.
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
- Must commit to the entire 11 weeks of camp (June 16 – August 30).
- Previous experience as an EMT, paramedic, or in a similar medical capacity is preferred.
- Experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting is a plus.
- Ability to quickly assess medical situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors in an active, camp environment.
- Must provide an annual physical exam (valid for camp duration).
- A compassionate, patient approach and a passion for ensuring children’s safety.
