General Summary:
Each Edgeworks location (Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma) is seeking one AMGA Single Pitch Instructor who can maintain a safe and fun learning environment for youth climbers, ages 7-17 in our Summer Camp program. The SPI will facilitate the day-to-day operations during outdoor summer camps, including conducting high quality instruction, transportation, and risk management. The SPI is also responsible for providing supervision and mentorship for up to two other instructors on the summer camp team.
Summer Camp SPIs will average 3 days per week of outdoor instruction. Single Pitch Instructors are overseen by the Director of Climbing School & Guiding, but report to and collaborate with the Youth Program Manager on a daily basis. This is an entry-level outdoor guiding position, though opportunities may exist for indoor instruction, professional development, or adult instruction &/or guiding for the well-qualified candidates.
Job Duties
- Facilitate all aspects of single pitch rock instruction including consistently onsighting outdoor sport climbs up to at least 5.10b in difficulty.
- Oversee a small team of instructors in a single pitch, front-country cragging environment.
- Demonstrate an inclusive teaching philosophy focused on developing confidence, ability and growth on and off the walls.
- Facilitate transportation between the gym and the outdoor venue.
- Manage program equipment, including daily inventory and loss prevention.
- Implement age-appropriate activities that motivate and engage youth climbers.
- Teach climbing skills, teamwork, and personal responsibility to a variety of ages.
- Teach the fundamentals of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics.
Minimum qualifications
- AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) or higher
- Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or higher
- Experienced and proven team contributor
- Available full-time from June 16 - August 22, 2025
- Available for in-person training in June 18-23 (TBD)
- At least 18 years old
Preferred qualifications
- Able to drive a 15-passenger van between the gym and the outdoor venue
- Able to lead outdoor sport climbs up to 5.11b
- Experience driving large vehicles
- Valid driver license with a clean driving record
- Leadership in an outdoor workplace
- Experience teaching climbing skills to youth
- Leave No Trace Trainer
Employment Status and Compensation
- Seasonal: June - early September
- Part-time, not to exceed 40 hours per week
- Locations: Based in Seattle (Ballard), Bellevue, WA or Tacoma, WA
- Typically Monday-Friday, potential for weekend work
- Hourly wage: $24.34-$28.04, depending on experience & certification
