Job Title: Quality Control Technician
Location: SE Suburbs of Grand Rapids, MI
Salary: $27/hr (Based on experience)
Position Overview:
The Quality Control Technician is responsible for testing materials and finished products to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and company standards. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining the quality of products at various stages of production, ensuring they meet the required standards and specifications. The technician will work closely with the Quality Control (QC) Manager and other team members to uphold quality throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the QC Manager in interpreting and clarifying production drawings and specifications.
- Select products for inspection prior to use in production, ensuring they meet required standards as outlined in company Quality System Manuals (QSM) and other relevant guidelines.
- Perform tests at various stages of production, including testing for dimensions, performance, strength, concrete, reinforcement placement, tolerances, and tensioning characteristics.
- Record and analyze test data, applying statistical quality control procedures to validate compliance.
- Prepare reports and evaluate data, identifying any deviations from existing standards and recommending corrective actions.
- Set up and conduct both destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, and products to assess performance or material characteristics.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and company-specific laws, standards, and specifications.
- Maintain calibration of quality control equipment to ensure accurate results.
- Perform inspections across all stages of production and ensure proper handling of test specimens.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance quality control processes and standards.
- Communicate quality or compliance concerns promptly to ensure quick resolution.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education/Experience:
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or 1 to 3 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to pass and maintain required ACI/MCA Level 1 certification, which may involve attending classes in various locations such as Lansing, Detroit, or other Michigan cities.
- Skills:
- Strong mathematical ability to work with concepts like probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and email communication.
- Ability to read and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to assess deviations and make recommendations.
- Physical Demands:
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Comfort with physical tasks such as testing concrete samples, working with equipment like wheelbarrows, shovels, trowels, and climbing ladders.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including exposure to fumes, airborne particles, extreme temperatures, and noise.

Work Environment:
The role is primarily performed in a manufacturing plant where the technician will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and occasional wet/humid conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided to ensure safety.
