What are the responsibilities and job description for the Visiting Teacher position at Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District?
- To assist the campus principal to improve the attendance of students through home visits with parents and/or guardians.
- To make home visits to ensure that the student population resides within the school’s zoned boundaries.
- To establish communication between the campus and the parent regarding student attendance.
- To inform the parents, students, and community of Compulsory School Attendance Laws.
- To communicate with the campus principal, attendance staff, and faculty about situations which create barriers to student attendance.
- To assist with accurate demographics by verifying physical addresses, mailing addresses, and parent/guardian contact information.
- To assist the campus principals and Truant Officers with the preparation and issuance of Truancy Warning letters as required by TEC 25.095.
- To assist the campus principal and PEIMS Department with verifying and assuring the accuracy of the Leaver data.
- To assist in the identification of Homeless students and families.
- To assist the Coordinator of Pupil Services and Intake in gathering information pertaining to in district transfer requests.
- To deliver information to parents regarding placements at alternative schools as directed by the Administration.
- To assist the campus staff to implement methods of returning students to school in an effort to reduce the number of dropouts.
- To serve as a resource to the campus staff, faculty, and counselors regarding student attendance.
- To attend meetings as directed in order to share information that will improve student attendance.
- To utilize a computer to access student attendance reports, excessive absence reports, and other databases.
- To generate reports as needed such as mileage reports, visiting teacher reports, or other reports as directed by the principal and/or central administration.
- To access the Region One Data Processing system to utilize the Student Attendance Profile information.
- To provide for presentations to communicate with parents, students, and staff regarding the importance of school attendance.
- To make home visits for students who fail to enroll in the Juvenile Justice Alternative Program.
- Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent district travel. Outdoor exposure to sun heat, cold and inclement weather.
