Job Title: Elementary Teachers (KG-4th)

Reports to: School Principal

OVERVIEW:

The Elementary Teacher creates and implements a rigorous and relevant education program that acknowledges and meets the unique needs of each student in alignment with state and professional standards. The Elementary Teacher reinforces a growth mindset and the essential skills of grit, gratitude, self-regulation, and flow through explicit instruction, modeling, guided reflection, and practical application. The Elementary Teacher establishes effective rapport with colleagues, students, parents and community members to develop in students the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to be successful life-long learners.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates teaching skills and knowledge in assigned academic area, utilizing course of study adopted by the Governing Board and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instructs students in basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the charter.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil and to best utilize available classroom time for instructional purposes.
  • Prepares current schedules, lesson plans and seating charts for use by a guest teacher.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, maintain permanent academic and attendance records, and prepare progress reports. Maintains the confidentiality of each student’s record.
  • Establishes and maintains lines of communication with students and parents on a regular basis. Communicates with parents to discuss students’ progress, particular needs or difficulties encountered in the school program; treats parents with respect when reviewing a child’s problems or progress.
  • Seeks the assistance of specialists or school resource persons to ascertain learning difficulties of students and appropriate services to meet their needs.
  • Maintains a learning atmosphere by creating an effective environment for learning to meet the physical and psychological requirements of the students.
  • Maintains professional competence by participating in classes, workshops and other growth activities.
  • Selects and requisitions instructional aids and materials; maintains required inventory records.
  • Instructs assigned classes in locations and at the times designated by the principal/supervisor, and reports for duty and other assignments on time, and supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Establishes and maintains management and control of students in the classroom or under supervision.
  • Develops and explains rules for classroom discipline and consistently maintains discipline in the classroom.
  • Takes reasonable precautions to protect students’ safety, welfare and school property.
  • Disciplines students in a fair and impartial manner, following school policies regarding the rights of students.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or self-selected professional activities and attends required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Assists in implementing policies, administrative regulations and procedures established by the Governing Board and school principal.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment.
  • Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal/Designee

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must also be able to perform math skills, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios, statistical analysis, and algebraic reasoning; Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret education materials and programs and write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. Also must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers, students, administration, and the community. In addition, the elementary teacher must be able to effectively communicates aims and/or objectives to students in a well-planned, organized manner using clear and precise language. Must be able to schedule activities; meetings and/or events; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. In working with others, independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Appropriate Arizona Elementary Teacher Certification
  • Meets Criteria of Appropriately Certified
  • Minimum of a Provisional SEI or ESL Endorsement
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46,657.00 - $69,782.00 per year
