POSITION OVERVIEW
About the Position
Coaching staff are responsible for the training of the athletes, game planning and management, safety of the athletes, and facility and equipment management.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
- 3 years of experience coaching football
Other Requirements
- Must possess or have the ability to posses a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card by the time of hire.
- First Aide/ CPR Certification
- Must possess or have the ability to possess a valid Arizona Teaching/Coaching Certificate by the time of hire.
Preferred Requirements
- 4 or more years of coaching experience
- NFHS Coaching Fundamentals
- NFHS Concussion education
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS
- Follows local, state and federal law and adheres to State Department of Education and Local School Board Policies
- Becomes knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of the National Federation and the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).
- Prepares written philosophies, goals, and objectives for his/her sport and receives signed approval of the Principal and Coordinator for Activities & Athletics.
- Promotes his/her sport within the community.
- Support and promote the AIA ‘Victory With Honor’ program.
- Keeps accurate written records regarding student attendance, eligibility and participation.
- Coordinates schedules, transportation, meals, lodging, and game officials in concert with the Coordinator for Athletics and Activities.
- Coaches individual participants in athletic skills.
- Plans, schedules and supervises a regular program of practices.
- Plans schedules and supervises a program of activities for the off season, when appropriate.
- Recommends purchase of equipment, uniforms, and supplies as appropriate.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service activities or in self selected professional activities.
- Coordinates with other coaches in scheduling the use of facilities and equipment.
- Reports all injuries to nurse and, in the absence of a nurse, to the principal and maintains a record of student accidents and/or injuries.
- Provides safety instruction, and checks equipment and play area to insure safety of students.
- Assists in the evaluation of Assistant Coaches.
- Conducts coaching activities as a positive teaching and learning experience.
- Develops a self-improvement program for upgrading coaching skills.
- Maintains positive relationships with staff, students, parents and community.
- Works to develop a sense of pride, purpose, and teamwork.
- Provides a stable, adult and well-disciplined coaching atmosphere
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Working Conditions
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, crouch, bend, walking up and down stairs/ramps, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
