ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION SPECIALIST TEACHER

Purpose of the Position: Under the direction of the Director of Assessments and Related Services and support from a Program Administrator, the Adapted Physical Education Teacher provides assessment, consultation to parents and teachers, program development and consultation, services/direct instruction in the area of adapted physical education for identified students. Adapted Physical Education Teacher uses special instructional procedures as necessary to meet the individual needs of pupils with physical disabilities. Assesses students who are referred to determine if they qualify for the adapted physical education service.

Pay Range: $42.00 - $56.00 per hour

Position Responsibilities and Duties:
- When assigned, provides Adapted PE sessions/services
- Provides consultation in Adaptive PE techniques
- Designs programs to meet individual pupil needs as specified on the IEP in physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, and sports and games achievement
- Participates in the IEP process from referral to implementation as appropriate, including assessments, report writing, IEP meetings, and development of goals and objectives
- Evaluates and monitors pupil progress and makes periodic reports on the achievement and personal adjustment of identified pupils
- Maintains accurate written records of pupil progress, goals, and objectives, attendance, and parent contacts
- Continues to keep current on recent research, trends, and development in Adaptive PE and related fields
- Maintains flexibility and collaborative nature at all times to ensure school programs align with changing regulations and requirements

Minimum Skills or Qualifications:
- Must hold a valid California Teaching Credential with an authorization to teach Adapted Physical Education

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Occasional exposure to dust, pollen, and fumes
- Requires frequent reaching, handling, sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, running, carrying, and lifting 50 or more lbs.
- Must be able to see and hear within normal range with or without correction.
