Utilizes AutoCAD Civil 3D software to provide non-technical drafting support to engineers by preparing layouts, plan and profiles, and detail drawings. Makes simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to engineers or supervisor. Has a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology. Possesses mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations. Complete a full set of CAD drawings, layouts and understand basic utility design.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Full Comprehension of a one-line design and all types of utilities
- Create Base Drawing from One-Line Design independently for the following projects
- Subdivision Plans
- Roadway
- Detention
- Mass Grading
- Clearing
- Recognize Utility Conflicts and make recommendations
- Full comprehension of drainage calcs and Drainage Area Map
- Prepare independently a Grading Layout in Land and Site development
- Prepare independently grading Layouts
- Importing Google Earth images to scale for design purposes
- Capable of reading a plat and all components effectively
- Understanding of survey topo
- Prepare a full set of Water, Sewer, Drainage and Roadway plans with minimal mistakes independently
- Create a set of Detention pond plans and understand all components
- Calculate Detention and Mitigation Volumes
- Calculate and create CUT/FILL reports for Roadway Excavation and Manipulation
- Calculate CUT/FILL reports for Mass Grading
- Proficient in Modeling

- As-builts vs Design
- Subdivision Grading
- Mass Grading
- Detention Basin Modeling
- Participate in Training CAD I & CAD II Techs, as well as entry level EITs.
- Attend majority of assigned Land Services Grub and Grows
- Creates CAD drawings for site and land development, water and wastewater plants, utility districts, public works, transportation, and municipal department.
- Identify and implement production efficiencies.
- Able to work independently from project managers.
- Identifies potential design conflicts and applies innovative problem solving to determine solutions for project managers.
- Continuously updates CAD standards manual.
- Work with project team to execute projects on time and on budget.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Excellent communications skills: interpersonal, listening, oral, and written.
- Skilled in PC usage and associated software.
- Able to generate layout drawings from sketches and specifications.
- Knowledgeable of standard drafting practices and procedures.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a professional office environment.
Education, certification and experience:
- Must have strong understanding of AutoCAD 2015.
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years of experience.
