Job Summary
EHRA Engineering Firm is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Construction Estimator to join our team. This role involves providing analysis, estimation, and technical support on civil infrastructure, roadway, and water/wastewater facilities projects. The ideal candidate has some relevant experience and demonstrates a willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs from civil infrastructure construction plans.
- Analyze bid item descriptions for project bid forms and construction cost estimates.
- Review construction plans for potential constructability issues.
- Collaborate with design teams to address bidding and constructability concerns.
- Analyze as-built drawings and identify discrepancies with construction plans.
- Monitor, track, and verify the status of construction permits with relevant agencies.
- Provide occasional field surveying, testing, and site observation for construction jobsites.
- Support project managers, engineers, and other team members with technical tasks.
- Monitor and analyze unit bid prices and cost trends for civil land development and facilities projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in software tools, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Bluebeam, and Zoom.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Familiarity with civil infrastructure construction drawings and the ability to interpret them is preferred.
Work Environment
This role primarily operates in an office setting, with occasional fieldwork at construction sites. The position may require light lifting (up to 15 pounds) and involves standard office tasks such as prolonged periods at a desk and computer use.
Education, Certification, and Experience:
- High school diploma required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in roadway, utility, or water/wastewater facilities construction.
- Preferred qualifications include prior experience in construction, home building, or related trades, and coursework in construction supervision, management, or related engineering fields.
Physical Requirements:
- This is largely a sedentary role. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate project plans both orally and in writing.
- The employee is occasionally required to move about the office to operate office productivity machinery or maneuver through a construction site safely.
- May require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
- The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Proper office attire required to be presentable for out of office meetings.
