Associate Faculty Pool, Diversity Studies (PT Faculty) LOCATION: Lynnwood Washington We accept applications for part-time faculty positions on an ongoing basis. DESCRIPTION: Edmonds College and the Humanities and Social Sciences Division invite applications for an associate faculty Diversity Studies Instructor. The college seeks faculty who will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success. Faculty members are responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes to a diverse student body in classroom, campus, and field settings combined with online course management and/or within an online/hybrid model; developing curriculum; preparing teaching materials; developing and assessing student learning outcomes to evaluate student work; assigning grades; maintaining required records; and advising and consulting with students to support their success. Instructors will be responsible for teaching Introductory Diversity Studies courses. The instructor will also be responsible for working with Anthropology and Diversity/Women's Studies department chairs in the maintenance and ongoing development of the college's program of community-based service-learning. The teaching assignment may include early morning or late afternoon/evening classes and could include online teaching as well. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Arts or Sciences degree in a social science discipline with substantive graduate level coursework, teaching, and/or research in ethnic studies, gender studies, or other field that emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and justice. Demonstrated commitment to engaged, problem-based service-learning. Effective verbal and written communication skills. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Competence to teach courses with multicultural perspectives in a community college setting with a focus on student learning. Experience with community-based service-learning. Demonstrated ability to create inclusive learning environments in class, online, and in the field. Teaching experience in a related field, preferably in a community college setting. Willingness to incorporate the college-wide abilities of Critical Thinking, Group Process, Written and Oral Communication, and Quantitative Reasoning into course curricula. Experience with the use of online course management systems, i.e. Canvas. Ability to impart excitement and enthusiasm into teaching. Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including a wide range of student preparedness and characteristics. PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is typically performed in a classroom, which requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Instructors typically use a computer in the work environment.v COMPENSATION: Work schedule is based on an eleven week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $5,865.82 at Step A. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire. Criminal background check.
