Position Summary
The Communications and Marketing Manager manages the implementation of the Art Center's marketing and advertising efforts to generate excitement and interest in the museum, art school, and sculpture park to diverse market segments, and manages internal communications to ensure timely, accurate, and thorough distribution of information among staff and internal stakeholders.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing and works closely with other departments to promote and communicate Art Center events, programming, initiatives, and policies. This position regularly communicates cross-departmentally and serves on internal committees as a representative of Communications and Marketing.
Essential Functions
- Develops and executes annual marketing plan in support of organizational strategies, objectives, and brand fulfillment.
- Manages marketing, advertising, and promotional budgets.
- Manages advertising schedule and placement for all media including but not limited to print, radio, outdoor, bus wraps, and digital formats.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with advertising account representatives and identifies opportunities to reach new and diverse audiences.
- Grows and diversifies the Art Center's base of fans and followers through audience identification and targeted messaging.
- Manages WordFly CRM platform on behalf of all departments to schedule campaigns, draft and design emails, and format images to keep audiences informed and engaged with museum initiatives.
- Oversees internal communication schedule to ensure timely delivery of information and manage distribution controls.
- Designs and distributes bi-weekly electronic member newsletter to audience of 6,500.
- Collaborates with department staff to develop and execute communication plans to increase awareness and attendance of museum exhibitions, events, and programs.
- Develops promotional collateral to meet the goals of Development; Museum Learning, Engagement and Community Access; Museum Shop, Studio programs, and others as needed.
- Seeks to understand the goals of each department and serve their communication needs through the development of promotional collateral.
- In consultation with the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing, writes, edits, and distributes press releases to support exhibitions, events, development initiatives, and Art Center news.
- Creates internal communication plan and standardized procedures to effectively convey information within the organization, identifying key messages and communication channels while ensuring timely and accurate distribution.
- Maintains brand standards including oversight of logo use, email signatures, and all branded collateral such as PowerPoint templates, letterhead, and business cards.
- Submits events to local community calendars including Catch Des Moines, Business Record, City View, Des Moines Register, and school e-backpacks.
- Analyzes the impact and effectiveness of advertising campaigns; Reports key metrics to inform departments in decision-making.
- Cross-trains with Digital Media Manager to serve as a backup to maintain website and social media presence ensuring content is timely, accurate, and relevant.
Other Responsibilities
Acts in ways that reflect favorably on the Art Center and maintains professional standards in the quality of performance and demonstration of concern for the Art Center's collection, programs, staff, visitors, and facilities. Adheres to Des Moines Art Center Code of Ethics, Employee Handbook and other organizational policies.
