Title: Veterans Outreach Coordinator
Classification: Non-Exempt
Scope of Position
- Work exclusively with Veterans seeking training and employment
- Build relationships with community-based organizations and stakeholders to develop appropriate strategies to connect Veterans to available opportunities and services. Support those who need further assistance, direction, and resources.
- Conduct community outreach to local Veterans seeking employment, and assess job readiness status to include barriers to employment, by encouraging them use our services and register on the PA CareerLink® website
- Maintain a thorough understanding of all programmatic processes, staff roles, and funding sources in order to guide veterans to achieve successful goals
- Serve as a liaison for all Veterans transitioning from Active Duty and Reserve to civilian life by identifying classification codes and translating them into civilian occupations
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Serve as liaison between PA CareerLink® and Veteran and community organizations, partners, and stakeholders to support Veteran referrals
- Identify and translate military occupation codes (or military occupational specialty codes), Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSC), and Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) ratings system into civilian occupations
- Interpret Veteran documentation (DD214) for PA CareerLink® services
- Work with PA CareerLink® Career Coaches to perform comprehensive assessments to determine career path objectives, interests, skills, abilities, job readiness, and barriers to employment
- Conduct assessments with participants to create Individualized Employment Plans, develop next steps, and determine participant barriers to employment and training
- Be knowledgeable of and coordinate with Training Specialist for training and funding availability
- Assist Veterans with enrolling in SkillUp® as a training and certification resource
- Schedule and conduct onsite/offsite presentations with organizations to promote CareerLink® services, including training funds
- Attend required meetings with local and state representatives and agencies to promote PA CareerLink® Veteran services, contacts, and program status
- Connect with PA CareerLink® Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) and Local Veterans Employment Representative (LVER) to promote unified services and information
- Connect with PA CareerLink® Rapid Response Coordinator when companies are closing and displaced employees have served in the military, and promote hiring Veterans to local businesses
- Track customer progress and outcomes
- Ensure that performance goals are being met
- Contact, send reminders, and follow up with Veteran customers for onsite recruitments and other events
- Provide support by assisting Veterans with transferable skills, reformatting their resume, and uploading it to the PA CareerLink® website
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
- Must be a Veteran of any branch of service, and have served a minimum of a 4-year tour
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Experience in providing career development assistance and business development
- Experience working in a team-oriented environment
- Able to converse with a wide range of Veterans from any branch of service and demonstrate a positive professional attitude
- Must be available to travel to community-based events and provide outreach to Veteran jobseekers
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and automobile
- Fluent in Spanish (read and write) desirable
