JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Title: Special Education Teacher - Special needs teacher for an Autism classroom
Location: Somerville, MA (onsite)
Job Type: Contract (35-40 hours per week)
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: June 2025 If selected, you would be contracted through us to the school for the remainder of this school year. At the end of SY:24-25, if you wish to continue working at the same school site, we would extend your employment contract for the next school year.
Pay rate: $35-40/hr.
Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher (PreK-K) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with children with diverse learning needs and disabilities (Autism Specifically). This role involves developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) to support students' academic, social, and emotional growth. The Special Education Teacher will collaborate with parents, educators, and support staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement tailored lesson plans that accommodate the individual needs of students with disabilities.
Assess students' progress and adapt teaching methods accordingly to ensure effective learning.
Collaborate with parents, therapists, and other educators to create and review IEPs.
Utilize various instructional strategies to engage students in their learning process.
Monitor student behavior and provide appropriate interventions to promote positive outcomes.
Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress for reporting purposes.
Foster a supportive classroom environment that encourages social interaction and personal growth.
Stay informed about current best practices in special education, including curriculum development and standardized testing.
Experience
Proven experience working with children, particularly those with developmental disabilities or special needs (Autistic students).
Background in early childhood education or related fields is highly desirable.
Familiarity with curriculum development, childhood development theories, and effective teaching strategies for diverse learners.
Experience in deaf education or working within daycare/preschool settings is a plus.
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
Qualifications:
The required candidate should carry a valid SPED Teacher license for state of MA
Bachelors/Masters/Associate Degree in related field or minimum 1 year of SPED Teacher experience
