Sign Language Interpreter
QUALIFICATIONS:
- National certification from a recognized body, such as the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), indicating proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting skills.
- An associate's or bachelor’s degree in American Sign Language interpretation, Deaf education, or a related field, with coursework focusing on educational settings and child development.
- Experience interpreting in educational environments, with a strong understanding of special education practices and the ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, and support staff.

- RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide real-time interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for Deaf or hard of hearing students in classroom settings, ensuring access to instructional materials and discussions.
- Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and peers, adapting interpreting styles to meet the needs of individual students and specific classroom dynamics.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to understand curriculum content and instructional methods, ensuring accurate interpretation of lessons and activities.
- Assist in the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, contributing insights on communication access and support needs.
- Monitor student understanding and engagement during lessons, providing feedback to teachers on any communication barriers or additional support needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while adhering to ethical standards set by interpreting organizations, and participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with interpreting practices and educational trends.
