Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant will work under the supervision of the District Nurse and will work within the scope of her training and practice.
- Will comply with laws relating to student health including parental and guardian.
- Will follow all emergency care plans and individual health plans.
- Provide appropriate care for ill medically fragile and/or injured students.
- Provide health information and serve as a resource to parents; teachers; staff and administrators.
- Identify health problems for referrals for proper treatment.
Specific Duties
Under the direction and supervision of the District Nurse, the Medical Assistant will:
- Administer first aid to students; medication and specialized treatments for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill; medically fragile and/or injured in accordance with State laws and District policies.
- Assist in conducting programs and/or activities (i.e. in-service training and immunization review, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with government mandated requirements.
- Assist with the collaboration with parents; students; teachers; staff; health care providers; and/or securing student health services, providing information and complying with legal requirements.
- Implement health care plans for students with health problems for the purpose of meeting the needs of students with chronic health problems and/or accommodations requirements.
- Provide care to students with chronic illnesses and extremely high risk students (i.e. allergies; asthma; diabetes; seizures; medically fragile, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the student in achieving the highest possible functional level.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the District Nurse.
Qualifications
Medical Assistant certification through American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
Must be registered with the State of Michigan
Salary : $16 - $21
