Part-time Research Analyst
Education Week, a nonprofit media organization that provides the most trusted news and information on K-12 American education, is seeking a part-time Research Analyst to join our Education Week Research Center team.
Job Summary
The part-time Research Analyst will assist with every aspect of the quantitative and qualitative studies we conduct for our journalists, our clients (which have ranged from multi-national companies such as Logitech and Google to nonprofit organizations such as the Education Writers Association and the Equable Institute), and for internal, strategic purposes. The job includes contributing to every step of our survey work-from initial design and data collection to analysis and reporting. The part-time Research Analyst will work up to 28 hours per week. The hours can be somewhat flexible, but should be consistent and within regular working hours, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST. The hourly rate for this position is up to $34.00 per hour, based on experience.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self-starter with excellent communication skills, a passion for K-12 education and experience doing quantitative research (including analysis with SPSS or a similar tool) in a professional setting outside of the college or graduate school classroom.

Responsibilities
- Participate in every aspect of the survey research process: from designing, building, and testing surveys, to designing and deploying communications using an email management platform; analyzing quantitative data with SPSS; and reporting out results using charts, presentations, and text
- Perform quality control tasks such as proofing and data checking
- Participate in qualitive research by conducting interviews and coding/analyzing unstructured data
- Respond to information requests from audience members, clients, and other stakeholders
- Prepare slide decks, presentations, and reports
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field (E.g. education, statistics, business, sociology) or a Bachelor's Degree, and 2-3 years related experience
- Strong quantitative skills, including experience using SPSS or a similar tool in a professional setting outside the college or graduate school classroom to clean data, run crosstabs, and conduct other analyses
- Ability to assist with survey work, including sampling, survey instrument creation, communication, construction, dissemination, analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, and reporting
- Strong research skills – must know how to decide what to search and where to search to find relevant and credible information and familiarity with checking and preparing quantitative and qualitative data for publication as well as the ability to conduct original analyses and interpret findings from extant research literature with modest supervision
- Experience with -or a deep interest in-participating in qualitative research by conducting interviews, coding the results of open-ended questions, and identifying interview themes
- Knowledge of or deep interest in learning about K-12 education and businesses that provide services and goods to K12 districts and schools
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Extremely strong language skills that can be employed to accurately and quickly proofread and check English language texts and quantitative data in the context of research reports and journalism
- Willingness to consistently learn new tasks, including asking questions and responding to and implementing feedback
