What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Planner position at Educational Products, Inc.?
SUMMARY : The Purchasing Agent is responsible for purchasing goods for the company in an efficient and economical manner following established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The employee must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Forecast and replenish inventory based on historical and seasonal demand.
- Enter and process purchase orders for domestic and foreign suppliers.
- Monitor inventory levels by creating appropriate reorder points and preventing overstock situations.
- Monitor open purchase order report and follow up on past due purchase orders with vendors accordingly to expedite delivery of goods.
- Communicate with vendors on back-order issues and identify alternate options, as needed, to meet customer deadlines.
- Maintain purchasing records such as items purchased, costs, delivery, product quality, etc.
- Discuss defective or unacceptable goods with quality control personnel, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take correction action.
- Review daily inventory reports to maintain departmental objectives.
- Review and research invoice discrepancies.
- Approve invoices for payment.
- Research and set up item numbers accordingly in the system. Set selling price on all stock, non-stock, and customized item numbers.
- Negotiate inventory returns, allowances, and vendor rebates.
- Meets and / or confers with vendors to negotiate improved pricing, invoice terms, product quality, and delivery of goods.
- Select products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items.
- Work closely with sales reps to identify customer needs, special artwork, etc.
- Work closely and communicate with the other departments, as needed, to ensure customer deadlines are met.
- Work with the compliance team to ensure our items meet the current US regulation and compliance requirements.
- Set up wire payment information for import suppliers.
- Monitor and act on problems related to import shipments.
- Assist with the approval of invoices for import freight and customs charges.
- Other duties as assigned
