Job: Director of Student Services and Accessibility

Reports to: Chief Academic Officer

Description:

Provide direction and organizational structure to the Student Services staff in the implementation of policies and procedures related to Federal and State laws for Special Education, Section 504, Title III, and other areas of student services as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university

  • Hold a current Ohio administrative license

  • Hold a current Ohio Intervention Specialist license or Pupil Services license

  • Teaching experience in special education or related services for a minimum of three years

  • Such alternatives to the above as deemed by the Superintendent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience related to serving students eligible for services under Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), 504s, school nurses/health/clinics, school counseling, mental health, behavioral health, social-emotional learning (SEL), and English Learners (EL)

  • Trained in prevention intervention - trauma and/or crisis situations

  • Three or more years experience as an administrator in a school district

  • Credentialed in Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES) and Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES)

Essential Functions:

  • The Director of Student Services should embed diversity, equity, and inclusion in all programs, services, and practices in alignment with the Bexley City School District Equity Policy.

  • Directs and manages comprehensive programs through an asset-based equity lens in, but not limited to, the following areas: special education, related services and assistive technology, 504, school health/clinic, school counseling, mental health, behavioral health, and social-emotional learning (SEL), and English Learners (EL).

  • Directs the delivery, continuous improvement, and professional development of special education programs.

  • Prepares and documents the budget for the assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Supports the planning and implementation of postsecondary transition programming for students with disabilities under IDEA

  • Ensures the delivery of student services, which supplement and support the district’s other educational programs and activities.

  • Consults with elementary and secondary principals on aspects of program implementation in the schools.

  • Serves as a liaison to the State Department of Education, Office of Exceptional Children, State Support Team 11, and other special education and student services groups.

  • Prepares mandated reports for submission to the Ohio Department of Education.

  • Assists building administrators by interpreting district policies and procedures relating to students with disabilities.

  • Provides leadership and direction to administrators, psychologists, general education, and special education staff for the implementation of federal law and Ohio rules for educating students with disabilities

  • Provides leadership and direction to administrators and staff on Response to Intervention and Multi-Tiered Systems of Response.

  • Administers IDEA-VI-B, Title III, and another related county, state, and federal grants awarded to the school district.

  • Knowledge of Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP) and other state-required reporting

  • Coordinates activities between the school district and outside agencies. e.g., human services, children’s services, juvenile court, child, and adolescent psychiatric services.

  • Coordinates the placement of students with disabilities in alternative placements, including schools outside the district.

  • Prepares all local, state, and federal reports relative to the areas of special education and student services

  • Assists in developing district-wide policies concerning special education programs and student services.

  • Develops procedures to maintain complete individual records of all children enrolled in special education.

  • Recommends the approval of supplies, instructional materials, and curriculum used by special education and English Learner (EL) staff.

  • Advises all personnel on rules and regulations regarding all programs that relate to special education, Section 504, school health, social-emotional learning, and school counselors

  • Serves as district 504 Compliance Officer and provides leadership and direction to administrators, school counselors, and staff regarding requirements under Section 504.

  • Develops processes and procedures to ensure accurate EMIS data management reporting.

  • Coordinates consultation with non-public school participation in grant funding related to areas of student services.

  • Serves as district liaison for McKinney Vento Homeless Act and works collaboratively with the Director of Employee Relations, Enrollment, and Residency to best serve our homeless populations of students

  • Evaluates school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, mental health specialists, nurses, EL teachers, and Special Education Coordinator

  • Ensure the psychological, physical, and emotional safety of students.

  • Navigate public relations.

  • Serve as a role model for students and staff.

  • Provide internal and external reports and presentations as requested.

  • Always maintain respect for confidential information, e.g., test scores, and student/personnel information.

  • Successfully completes all-district training requirements in a timely manner.

  • Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or Superintendent designee.


Salary Range:
Commensurate with education and experience. Range: $114,000 - $147,000
