QUALIFICATIONS :
- Valid Ohio certification / licensure
- Bachelor's Degree in Education of Students with Disabilities
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO : Building Principal
JOB GOAL : Provides students who have a variety of disabilities with effective instruction and learning opportunities. Motivates students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with each student's Individual Education Plan.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supports the learning of students with disabilities in alignment with state standards. Uses courses of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.Works cooperatively with regular education classroom teachers who have students with disabilities, interprets the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff, and helps differentiate instruction.Collaborates with regular education teachers to establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.Provides instruction in the resource room or inclusionary classroom.Provides one-on-one or small group instruction based upon a variety of instructional techniques and strategies.Uses de-escalation techniques and intervenes in reducing disruptive behavior.Teaches socially appropriate behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the needs of the students with disabilities.Participates in the intervention and evaluation process.Assists students with disabilities in achieving educational and occupational goals.Makes data driven instructional decisions to improve student outcomes.Develops and maintains accurate and compliant special education records.Collects and reports data on student achievement.Evaluates progress of each student on current IEP goals and informs parents of results in writing at interim and progress report times.Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and selected professional growth activities.Maintains a professional demeanor when dealing with students, parents, and staff.All other duties as assigned.ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS :
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.Excellent observation and communication skillsMay perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.Assisting students with behavioral / management needsFrequent evening and / or weekend workTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of negotiated contract.
EVALUATION :
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
