Position Title: Transition to Work Specialist
Category: Certified; Bargaining Unit eligible; FLSA exempt.
Contract: Initial one year contract; contract days as determined by the Governing Board; other terms and conditions of employment as per the CBA, O.R.C., and/or Board Policy.
Compensation: Salary, insurance coverage, and fringe benefits as per the current Board
adopted policies and schedules, with placement for granted education, experience, and responsibility.
Education/Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Education; Master’s degree in Special Education preferred.
Reports to: Supervisor, Special Education
Supervises: N/A
Job Goal: This position is responsible for assisting in the development and delivery of
individualized transition plans designed to maximize each student's employment potential through in-school and community experiences while utilizing community resources and business partnerships to enhance students' post-secondary outcomes.
Qualifications: The following qualifications are considered as guidelines:
· Valid certificate/license in special education; transition to work endorsement.
· Three years teaching experience in special education, with at least one year at the secondary level.
· Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and software/programs.
· Maintains documentation of service to districts and students through SDE and calendar.
· Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
· Abilities to promote positive internal and external customer relations.
· Alternatives to the above as approved by the Governing Board.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops and coordinates school and community-based work experiences with local businesses.
2. Assists in job placement and supervision of juniors and seniors in the community and maintains relevant work experience records, provide the end-of-year reports, and keeps local school personnel informed of student placement and progress.
3. Provides guidance regarding available opportunities regarding educational, vocational, and transition program options to students and districts.
4. Develops linkages and referral procedures with agencies to ensure effective transition from school to work to support student success in post-school outcomes.
5. Maintains current knowledge of federal and state labor laws governing the employment of students and adults with disabilities in regards to their rights and disclosure of their disability.
6. Implements and assists Intervention Specialists in the use of Age-Appropriate Transition Assessments to help develop the individual student’s preferences, interests, needs and strengths, and parent contribution.
7. Assists districts in assessing in-service needs as related to the prevocational and/or vocational education of students with disabilities. Delivers or assists in delivering this training to school personnel and parent groups.
8. Pursues ongoing professional growth through membership in professional organizations, subscriptions to publications, and through participation in available relevant workshops and attendance at local, state, staff, professional and interagency meetings.
9. Assists districts in helping identified students with meeting ODE approves alternative paths to graduation, through Ohio Work-Based Learning Experiences.
10. Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent.
