Job Description:

This position plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive school climate, supporting student success, and ensuring the well-being of our students. The Dean of Students will work closely with school leadership, staff, and families to promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students. The ideal candidate is a strong relationship builder, highly skilled in communication and conflict resolution, with a passion for supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Support: Serve as a key resource for students, providing guidance and support for academic, social, and emotional issues. Assist in the development of individualized student support plans and connect students with appropriate resources.
- Behavioral Management: Implement and uphold the school’s behavior policies fairly and consistently, addressing disciplinary concerns while encouraging restorative practices. Work with students to resolve conflicts, build positive behaviors, and foster a sense of responsibility. A member of the District PBIS team.
- Collaborate with Principals and Staff: Work closely with building principals, teachers, counselors, and other staff members to support school initiatives, address student needs, and ensure effective communication across grade levels. Assist with school-wide decision-making processes and leadership initiatives.
- Promote School Culture: Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe school culture by building strong relationships with students, staff, and parents. Organize and lead programs and initiatives that promote student engagement, community involvement, and school spirit.
- Conflict Resolution: Mediate student conflicts and provide strategies to de-escalate and resolve issues. Help students learn positive conflict resolution and communication skills.
- Student Leadership: Empower and support student leaders, clubs, and organizations to contribute to the school community and drive initiatives that promote respect, diversity, and inclusion.
- Supportive Environment: Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all students, addressing any issues related to bullying, harassment, or other challenges that may affect student well-being.
- Monitor Student Progress: Monitor and support students’ academic progress, behavior, and attendance, collaborating with teachers and counselors to provide appropriate interventions when necessary.
- Family and Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with families and the broader community to support student success. Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and collaborate to address any concerns.
- Assist in Administrative Duties: Support school leadership with school operations, including coordinating schedules, organizing events, and overseeing day-to-day school activities that promote student development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Masters degree in education, school leadership, or a related field.
- Proven experience working in a K-12 school setting, with experience in student behavior management and supporting students in grades 5-12.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to address sensitive issues tactfully and professionally.
- Knowledge of adolescent development and the ability to support students through academic and social challenges.
- Ability to maintain a calm, positive, and solution-oriented approach in high-stress situations.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks.
- Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and equitable school environment for all students.
- Experience in student discipline, restorative practices, and crisis intervention strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and build strong school-community partnerships.
Preferred:
- Certification in school leadership, counseling, administration, or an anticipated administrative license.
- Experience with PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), trauma-informed practices, or other student support frameworks.
- Experience with conflict mediation, student advocacy, or student leadership development programs.
- At least three to five years of experience in middle school/high school.
