JOB TITLE: Full Time Intervention Specialist (Mild to Moderate/Moderate to Intense)

SUPERVISED BY: Administration and Curriculum Manager

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Administration and Curriculum Manager, the Intervention Specialist provides appropriate learning experiences for students with a range of disabilities (age 3 through 21) in our alternative education program. This program is designed to build academic and functional skills using a personalized approach for each student. Serves as part of a highly skilled team dedicated to providing education through a transdisciplinary approach while upholding the core beliefs of the program. Collaborates with related service providers (speech, occupational, and physical therapists) and contracted service providers (Music Therapists, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Adapted Physical Education Teachers, etc.) to design customized learning plans to be delivered in small group environment. Ongoing professional development is required for this position. There is an emphasis on continuous learning and sharing skills across disciplines to develop individualized curriculum and personalized learning plans for each student.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education
  • Current ODE license as a K-12 Intervention Specialist
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Passionate, collaborative, and energetic disposition
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and use sound judgment
  • Proficient in computer applications including MS Office Suite, email, and internet
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
  • Possess a valid Ohio driver’s license with no more than two (2) moving violations and have reliable daily transportation.
  • Preferential consideration for candidates with the following:
    • Experience with Severe and Multiple Disabilities
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of teaching experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to a highly collaborative IEP/Service Plan process.
  • Contribute evaluative data in a timely manner for completion of triennial Evaluation Team Report.
  • Build meaningful connections and trust with students to cultivate a positive learning environment according to the individual needs of each student.
  • Foster a positive working relationship with teaching assistants, related service providers, intervention specialists, contracted service providers, administration, families, and school district personnel.
  • Collaboratively develop and teach engaging lessons that are grounded in best practice and evidence-based methods and utilize appropriate curriculum resources.
  • Uphold the Core Beliefs of the program.
  • Use positive behavioral strategies to support a high-quality learning environment.
  • Complete Functional Behavior Assessments and design Behavior Support Plans using a team-based approach.
  • Provide specialized instruction, accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology services for students with disabilities.
  • Coordinate completion of quarterly progress reports on IEP goals and academic report cards. Provide copies of reports to parents and district representatives.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings with families, district representatives, and team members.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records including timely completion of IEP and ETR documents and lesson planning.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Collect data as evidence of goal progress and attainment.
  • Continuously develop professional skills by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and workshops.
  • Coordinate classroom Teaching Assistants for program implementation, in accordance with policies and procedures, to maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Delegate duties to Teaching Assistants in collaboration with the program manager/director and related service providers.
  • Communicate with Administration and Curriculum Manager and/or Operations Manager when problems arise with classroom staff or students.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.
