General Responsibilities
- The job of a K-12 music teacher is done for the purpose of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Essential Functions:
- Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of assigned students.
- Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily clas time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides opportunities for a pep band ensemble. Organizes pep band performances at various sporting events.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
- Differentiates music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
- Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
- Plans, rehearses, and directs students in various musical programs.
- Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
- Attends or participates in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the district and/or building principal.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:
- BA in Music or Music Education, Master's degree preferred
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate (or the ability to obtain one within two months of hire date) with applicable endorsements for subject matter and grade level(s).
- Academic Preparation for, or experience in serving an economically and culturally diverse student population in a small, rural school system.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Subject areas appropriate to assignment; effective behavior management techniques; effective instructional techniques; rules and procedures for student safety.
Skill in: Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications; effective communication with parents or guardians; designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of achievement.
Ability to: Deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working with a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population; adapt to change and remain flexible; organize activities; manage student behavior; use good judgement to maintain a safe learning environment; provide instruction and demonstrate techniques; use necessary computers or software; establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with students, parents or guardians, staff and administrators. -

Working Environment:
Generally, the job requires 0% sitting, 40% walking, and 60% standing. The job is performed under some temperature variations and minimal hazardous conditions.
