Education Level and Certification: Bachelor's degree or Associates degree in computer science or related field. Five years previous experience (or combination of experience and education) and certifications in: Industry and Vendor Certifications and Certified Cisco Network Associate (CCNA) preferred.

Performance Responsibilities and Job Tasks
Provide supplemental network support to ESU13 and its twenty-one member school districts across the Nebraska panhandle. Consult with school district technology coordinators to determine technology needs including, planning, researching, implementing, and maintaining network infrastructure. Network assistance and support of school district LAN/WAN networks. Research issues, perform network troubleshooting using analysis tools, repair or replace equipment, and configure equipment.
Essential Functions
- Work with vendors, clients, carriers, and technical staff on network implementation, optimization and ongoing management.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of district service plans.
- Experience in project management involving teamwork.
- Responds to teacher and administrator requests for support and maintains professional contact with assigned districts. Assists as requested by ESU affiliated education groups and advisories.
- Implement and maintain systems to monitor network performance. Implement and maintain systems to monitor information security. Troubleshoot anomalies within the school's network. Use network analyzer tools such as Wireshark.
- Engineering and support of school networks. Provide Ongoing support to schools. Troubleshoot instability within their network for all network infrastructure. Access control, LAN, WAN, WLAN, video surveillance, VoIP, servers.
- Support the development, configuration, and maintenance of information security products, policies, programs, standards, procedures, and controls. Utilize a Cybersecurity Readiness Rubric to assess school districts' security risks and develop plans to mitigate those risks within their networks.
- Implement and configure network switches, wireless access points, servers, storage systems, and other network equipment.
- Design new networks and network upgrades including LANs, MANs, WANs, WLANs, and Internet connections. Provide guidance and advice on network expansion.
- Perform site survey of schools district’s current network infrastructure to determine equipment needs. Recommend a design/ replacement plan. The process would include, determining a budget, and writing Request for Proposals (RFPs) to utilize E-Rate funding.
- Implement and maintain firewalls, virtual private networks (VPN) gateways, intrusion prevention/detection, cyber risk mediation, vulnerability management, surveillance camera systems, cloud services, client applications, and incident detection and response processes.
- Responsible for providing guidance, direction, and training for the ESU13 LAN manager advisory group.
- Maintains a positive image of ESU #13 through development of related client and community public relations.
- Works collaboratively with ESU 13 departments to support the integration of technology.
- Maintain documentation of all related systems.
- Assists the Technology Team in supporting ESU 13 staff.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge
The Network Engineer/Internet Services Specialist is to possess and effectively utilize knowledge in the following areas:
- Computers and Electronics—Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
FLSA Status: Exempt. Professional exemption: The employee has a primary duty of performing work requiring knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study or has a primary duty of teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing in the activity of imparting knowledge and is employed and engaged in this activity as a teacher.
