JOB SUMMARY

School psychologists are on the team of site-based interventionists with the goal of supporting students in succeeding in the educational setting. In collaboration with educational staff, the school psychologist will facilitate the psychoeducational evaluation process and development and implementation of a student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manages the psychoeducational evaluation process.
• Evaluates and reports on student progress (e.g. using psychometric tests).
• Collaborates with educational staff to create coordinated plans of support.
• Maintains and organizes confidential records.
• Analyzes and treats students using psychoanalytic and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques as warranted.
• Screens students for potential psychological challenges and makes recommendations for treatment plans based on screening.
• Guides parents in understanding student’s cognitive abilities, strengths and areas of need.
• Supports staff in setting learning goals based on each student’s emotional, cognitive and social strengths.
• Refers students or parents to community services if needed.
• Researches new methods to improve children’s wellbeing and academic success.
• Mentors and supports teachers in the implementation of behavioral intervention plans.
• Communicates effectively with IEP teams, teachers, parents and supervisors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Current Arizona School Psychologist License or Certification.
• Master’s Degree in School Psychology or related educational field.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Ph.D. or Psy.D Degree.
• Proven experience as a school psychologist in a diverse educational setting.
• School Psychologist certification from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF

• Various methods to address mental, emotional and physical disabilities in order to support each student’s educational success.
• Psychometrics and best practices regarding cognitive evaluations.
• Strong understanding of and adherence to state and federal education policies, regulations and laws.

SKILLED IN

• Locating and synthesizing best practices, emerging concepts and new research in child psychology.
• Building relationships with students, faculty members and families.
• Utilizing a variety of frameworks, platforms and technology tools to enhance productivity and maintain appropriate records.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast-paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.
