OVERVIEW

Educurious is a leader in the development of rich, rigorous and engaging problem and project-based learning (PBL) experiences that engage students with challenging and personally relevant problems currently being studied by professional experts in contemporary fields and disciplines. We use best practices in learning sciences and literacy to scaffold students’ authentic participation in projects. In our curriculum and professional learning experiences, Educurious leverages principles grounded in equity and justice to support teachers and youth in transformational learning.
For this project, you will serve as the lead writer working with a team of educators, experts, and learning designers to develop the first unit for one of the two courses. This work will include attending regularly scheduled meetings with a lead reviewer and project team members.
ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:
The Curriculum Writer: 3rd& 4th Grade Social Studies reports to the Humanities Manager for the duration of the contract.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Learn and understand the design specifications used for the development of curricular materials.
- Participate in the co-design meeting with a group of co-design teachers for unit 1.
- Develop and revise a detailed outline for unit 1 that incorporates the input of co-design teachers and experts.
- Write student and teacher curricular materials that align to standards and design specifications, using pedagogical practices aligned to an inquiry-based learning approach.
- Design formative and summative assessments, rubrics, and teacher guidance for utilizing assessment practices.
- Ensure lessons and units incorporate literacy skills and historical practices from approved skills progress documents.
- Respond to suggestions, feedback, and editing of your writing and curriculum development.
- Use feedback to inform revisions of curricular materials throughout the co-design process.
- Communicate with the reviewer about the progress, deadlines, challenges and solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent writing skills.
- Experience (3 years) teaching elementary social studies.
- Knowledge of the 3rd & 4th grade content and practice standards in the 2018 Massachusetts History/Social Science Framework.
- Ability to collaboratively develop and revise high quality, inquiry-based units according to project design specifications.
- Engage diverse stakeholders throughout the design process.
- Ability to align curriculum to the Massachusetts State Social Studies and Literacy Standards.
- Self-starter who is comfortable meeting deadlines while producing high-quality, engaging curriculum.
- A commitment to equity, inclusion, and justice and the ability to translate equitable humanities teaching practices (e.g. observable teacher practices that reflect culturally responsive and sustaining teaching) into curriculum design.
- $6,000 flat rate for the completing of the field test version of Unit 1.
- (Highly Preferred) Applicant is located in the Massachusetts area.
