Responsible for producing performance-based, interactive learning experiences to meet the business needs of the division/branch so they can effectively meet associates'/clients' needs. Works in a collaborative team environment and uses proven instructional design methodologies to analyze learning needs, design and develop content, define measurement strategies and assess the effectiveness of learning programs.

Other responsibilities:
  • Applies design concepts to achieve blend percentages between knowledge application and knowledge transfer.
  • Rapidly designs and develops learning content collaboratively with peers and stakeholders through the use of heat maps and punch lists.
  • Adheres to time estimates and project management processes as established by the department and the industry.
  • Leads sessions with SMEs and stakeholders to analyze needs and map business area requirements for training programs
  • Represents and advocates for the division, financial advisor or branch team roles.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and training specialists throughout the firm to analyze needs, develop appropriate learning objectives, and gather/maintain information.
  • Establishes a process and schedule for regular audits of learning programs to:
    • evaluate overall alignment with business objectives.
    • ensure that the most current information is included
  • Selects and recommends appropriate media and delivery methods for coursework.
  • Leads design efforts of learning programs of varying scales from inception through evaluation within designated timeframe
  • Adheres to department and Compliance quality standards and ensures appropriate implementation of courses.
Qualifications Required in the Job:
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, education-related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 – 4 years in an instructional design/development position preferred.
  • Series 7 and 66 (as business area requires)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles required.
  • Strong knowledge of key instructional design concepts and practices.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills – demonstrated ability to produce clearly written learning materials and articulate key concepts in a clear, succinct manner
  • Proficient in MS Office products.
  • Working knowledge of current online development tools preferred



Problem Solving:
Identify, recommend, and implement learning solutions for business areas based on analysis of learner needs. Use creativity and sound judgement required to engage learners and determine the level of interactivity, in order to achieve desired learning outcomes in courses. Resolve conflicts between subject matter experts when design decisions reach an impass. Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of courseware after release and develop actionable strategies and solutions if desired results are not achieved. Industry regulations, internal policies, procedures, and guidelines provide guidance and present constraints in problem solving.

Decision Making:
Decisions made in this position can be complex and non-routine. Most decisions pertain to gaining agreement on content to be included in a course, the level of interactivity, and the selection of the appropriate development tool or media. Instructional Designers will review, analyze, and facilitate discussion to ensure content directly supports performance-based learning objectives. Decisions are guided by department standards with review by team leaders.

Span of Influence:
Instructional Designers will be responsible for designing learning materials that provide the financial advisor, branch team and/or HQ associates with the appropriate knowledge and skills to be successful. Poor decisions could have negative impact on client investments, raise compliance issues, and subject the firm to regulatory action. They will interact with partners, leaders, and associates throughout the firm to help shape implementation strategies and identify associated business measures.
