JOB TITLE :   Stormwater Consultant

DEPARTMENT :   Environmental Services

STATUS :   Full Time Exempt

PAY SCALE :   $50,000 - $90,000 DOE

OVERVIEW :

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Stormwater Consultant  to support clients with regulatory compliance, site inspections, and stormwater pollution prevention planning in California. The ideal candidate will have experience in stormwater management, environmental compliance, and erosion and sediment control under the California : Construction General Permit (CGP)  and  Industrial General Permit (IGP) .

TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS :

  • Regulatory Compliance : Ensure client compliance with California's Construction General Permit (CGP), Industrial General Permit (IGP), and MS4 permits.
  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Development & Implementation : Prepare, review, and update SWPPPs for construction and industrial sites.
  • Site Inspections & Monitoring : Conduct routine site inspections, water sampling, and visual assessments for stormwater discharges.
  • Best Management Practices (BMPs) : Recommend, implement, and evaluate erosion and sediment control BMPs for various projects.
  • Passive & Active Treatment System Consulting : Provide guidance on the use of passive treatment systems and assist with Active Treatment Systems (ATS) operations where applicable.
  • Client & Agency Coordination : Serve as the primary contact for clients, regulatory agencies (e.g., State Water Resources Control Board, Regional Water Boards), and contractors.
  • Data Management & Reporting : Maintain compliance records, document inspections, and prepare reports for submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Training & Education : Provide stormwater training for site personnel, including Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) and Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) compliance training.
  • Permit Applications & Termination : Assist with Notice of Intent (NOI) applications and obtaining Notice of Termination (NOT) approvals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years related experience required.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT :

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites throughout California.

    PAY RANGE :

    50,000 - $90,000 Annually

    20.00 - $43.00 per hour

    Requirements

    PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) or Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD)
  • Certified Erosion, Sediment & Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI) or Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC) is a plus
  • 2 years of experience in stormwater consulting, environmental compliance, or erosion control.
  • Experience with passive treatment, polymer application, or active treatment systems (ATS) is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping, AutoCAD, and stormwater modeling tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of stormwater BMPs, water sampling techniques, and sediment transport principles.
  • Salary : $50,000 - $90,000
