ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
Job Summary
· The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for the management of instructional services based on the effective use of data, collaborative processes that include all stakeholder groups, and the use of research based instructional strategies.
· The Assistant Superintendent will provide direct support and feedback to all instructional and administrative staff on the development of district-wide school improvement efforts and related programs that support our teaching and learning efforts in grades K through 12.
· The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for all matters related to the development and delivery of instructional programs, assessment, and professional development.
· The Assistant Superintendent will help develop the budget and staffing allocations with the Director of Finance and Operations, and the Superintendent of Schools, in order to reach the maximum effective use of human and financial resources.
Job Responsibilities
· Oversees all aspects of Teaching and Learning including K-12 principals to align curriculum, enhance instruction and improve assessments.
· Leads the development of instructional leaders within the school district by setting goals, providing regular feedback, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
· Develops and implements an on-going evaluation program for all instructional programs in the school district.
· Plans, implements, and monitors budgets in all areas related to teaching and learning.
· Administers and coordinates federal and state grants through the communication between the district leadership team and building administrative team to ensure accountability for use of funds and student learning.
· Provides leadership and support to building administrators through collaborative planning, professional development, coaching, school improvement planning and regular communication.
· Provides input for the implementation of the district vision, including the alignment of programs to the vision and support through professional development and resource allocation.
· Remains current on educational research by engaging in professional development activities, professional reading, and peer collaboration.
· Directs the planning and implementation of new curriculum standards, statutes, and resources.
· Promotes system-wide technology integration and organizational efficiency.
· Works with the technology department to integrate technology into the curriculum, instructional programming, and assessment system.
· Serves as the school district homeless liaison.
· Oversees the district's ESOL services and funding.
· Attends all school board meetings and reports to the Board as needed on Teaching and Learning agenda items, along with leading the Curriculum sub-committee
· Leads the principals’ meetings to provide updated K-12 curriculum information and maintain on-going communication.
· Works with the school community to enhance partnerships, collaborations, and programs to better serve our students.
· Pursues alternative funding and resources to support programming.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
· Currently hold or be eligible for a State of Michigan teaching certificate.
· Currently hold or be eligible for a State of Michigan administrative certificate at the central office level.
· Teaching experience at either the elementary level, secondary level or both.
· Experience analyzing district level and external (state/national level) assessment data to improve instructional practices.
· Experience planning and providing professional development to staff.
· Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Curriculum Development, or related field.
· Minimum of three years as a building or district administrator with experience in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Leadership skills including: visioning, adaptability, active listening, coaching, facilitation, and use of data for decision making.
· Ability to prioritize resources for continuous improvement.
· Knowledge of current educational research, components of elementary programming, and best practices for instruction.
· Ability to work successfully with teachers in the development and revision of K-12 curriculum.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
· Ability to develop positive and trusting relationships.
· Ability to work with all curricular subject areas.
· Broad knowledge of school curriculum and technology integration.
· Knowledge of program evaluation and grant writing.
· Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
