Position Overview:


We are seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our leadership team. Our CFO is responsible for financial planning, budgeting, and analysis; debt and cash management; banking relationships; financial compliance; tax reporting; cost-benefit analysis; and the oversight of finance/accounting and administrative operations.


The ideal candidate will be a relationship-based leader with strong emotional intelligence, able to effectively work with all levels of the organization – a strategic-minded, problem solver with an interest in leveraging technology/data to make informed business decisions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in finance and accounting management in an engineering consulting or similar environment.


Key Responsibilities:


Financial Planning, Budgeting, and Analysis:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the company’s growth and profitability.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing financial forecasting.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and recommend actions to improve financial outcomes.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the CEO and Board of Directors.


Debt and Cash Management:

  • Manage the company’s debt portfolio, including negotiation and administration of loan agreements.
  • Develop and implement cash management strategies to ensure adequate liquidity and optimize cash flow.
  • Oversee working capital management, including accounts receivable and payable.


Banking Relationships:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with banks and financial institutions.
  • Negotiate and manage banking services and credit facilities to support the company’s financial needs.


Financial Compliance and Tax Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of tax filings and ensure compliance with tax laws.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual financial audit process.


Cost-Benefit Analysis:

  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Evaluate financial implications of new projects, investments, and initiatives.


Acquisitions:

  • Lead and oversee financial due diligence for potential acquisitions, ensuring accurate valuation, risk assessment, and alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and execute acquisition strategies, including deal structuring, negotiation, and integration planning to maximize financial performance and synergies.


Oversight of Finance/Accounting and Administrative Operations:

  • Lead and manage the finance and accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee administrative functions, including firm administration, facilities management, and IT services.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.


Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP):

  • Manage the financial aspects of the ESOP, including valuations, transactions, and compliance.
  • Educate and support employees regarding the ESOP and its benefits.


Leadership and Team Development:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance and administrative teams.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.


Relationship to Employees and Clients:


This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and will work closely with the firm’s senior leadership. This position manages all finance, accounting, IT, and administrative personnel.


Qualifications:


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably the CFO seat.
  • Experience in the AEC industry or a related professional services field.
  • Deltek Vision and VantagePoint software experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and analysis.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong commitment to ethical standards and corporate governance.
  • Travel required: 25% to 50%.
