Role Description :
This is a full-time remote role for a forensic civil / structural engineer in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. The engineer will be responsible for conducting structural and building envelope assessments of residential and commercial structures for clients including insurance companies, attorneys, contractors, and building owners. The engineer will service Cleveland, Ohio, and nearby areas.
Qualifications :
- Civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and / or construction engineering expertise
- Experience in forensic engineering or expert witness services
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to acquire
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities :
Conduct on-site investigations / analyses of residential and commercial construction to determine the origin and cause of failures involving, but not limited to, building envelopes, structural framing systems / components, foundations, etc.Perform damage assessments following vehicle and tree impacts and fires.Perform exterior and roof storm-damage assessments.Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients.Must be able to articulate findings to clients (both verbal and written).Prepare written reports that detail findings and conclusions from on-site investigations and analysis.Responsible for continued development of client relations.Ability to support conclusions by expert testimony in legal proceedings.Maintain professional and technical knowledge through attendance of educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations and institutions.Job Requirements :
Applicants must be an active registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), or be able to sit for the P.E. exam in the respective state(s). Multiple active state P.E. licensures, especially in surrounding states, are preferred.Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering.Must be well organized, able to balance multiple project workloads, and turn reports around within a short period of time.Must be willing to climb pitched roofs and crawl into tight spaces (attics, crawlspaces, etc.).Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.Must have superior customer service skills and ability to work well with others.Must have proficient use of Microsoft Office programs.Experience with hands-on engineering investigations is highly preferred.Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.Must be willing to travel and / or work a flexible schedule during periods of high work volume.Must be able to meet all standards for pre-employment physical examination.Physical Requirements :
