As an EF International Exchange Coordinator (IEC), you'll help high school foreign exchange students thrive in your American community. The coordinator role is multifaceted and never boring. From finding host families in your community to supporting international students through the highs and lows of living in a new country, you'll be an integral part of their exchange experience.
As an IEC you will connect caring host families with incoming exchange students. You’ll also mentor and support those students throughout the school year and work with local high schools in the area.
Our IECs come from all walks of life and varying backgrounds– stay-at-home parents, business owners, teachers, empty nesters and everything in between! But this isn't your ordinary way to spend your free time– you’ll earn compensation and exciting travel rewards along the way! On average, local coordinators earn about $750 for each student they place and supervise, plus some additional perks. IECs who match 2 or more students will travel to our National Conference in Cancun for a weekend of networking, professional development! We have additional rewards trips scheduled for Scotland and Brazil. Our destinations change each year. Although the trips are amazing, our coordinators say that working with international students is one of the best parts of the role!
We prioritize student safety and high program standards across the board. All EF coordinators must meet the following requirements from the US Department of State:
- Have a willingness to provide interim housing for one of their students if the need arises (Spare room or shared room with an extra bed required)
- Be at least 25 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Ensure that everyone 17 or over and living in the home can pass a criminal background check
