Description : Purpose :
Responsible for ensuring the credit union operates within legal, regulatory, and ethical standards while supporting compliance-related operations. This role includes assisting with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) responsibilities, backing up the Fraud Analyst and BSA Specialist, and managing levies, subpoenas, and other legal documents.
Duties and Responsibilities
- On an on-going basis, review laws and regulations that impact the Credit Union’s compliance requirements.
- Serve as backup for the BSA Specialist and Fraud Analyst, assisting with monitoring suspicious activity reports (SARs), currency transaction reports (CTRs) and fraud investigations.
- Analyze reports for suspicious activity as it relates to check kiting, account fraud, wire transfers, anti-money laundering, Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions, loan fraud and plastics fraud.
- Work involves much personal contact with others inside and / or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
- Research and investigate possible activity on accounts to include reporting activity to appropriate law enforcement officials.
- Collaborate with the Fraud Analyst to investigate, document, and report fraudulent activity.
- Review transaction monitoring alerts and escalate issues as necessary.
- Handle levies, garnishments, subpoenas, and other legal documents, ensuring timely responses and proper documentation.
- Perform periodic compliance audits and tests to verify adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in preparing and submitting compliance-related reports to management and regulatory agencies.
- Assist with compliance-related training and updates to staff, ensuring understanding of legal and regulatory responsibilities.
- Assist with compliance risk assessments and implementation strategies to mitigate regulatory risks.
- Assist in maintaining and updating compliance policies, procedures, and training material.
- Assist with the development of materials to educate employees about fraud prevention, legal obligations, and BSA / AML compliance.
- In conjunction with Verafin, prepare summaries for assessment activities for management and senior management use.
- Collaborate with management to implement and update compliance programs.
- Assist in other assigned duties.
