JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Environmental Services Manager, the Laundry Tech will perform the day-to-day activities of the Laundry Department in accordance with The Joint Commission (TJC), federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Provide clean, sanitary, and stain-free linens to patients, residents, and staff on a daily basis. Able to communicate with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
- Ensures departmental adherence to proper infection control, OSHA and safety standards.
- Attend meetings and training sessions.
- Cleans equipment and notifies the Manager of equipment needing repairs. Reports safety hazards to the Manager or submit a help desk ticket for maintenance.
- Transports clean linen from the laundry to the clean linen rooms in the facility; and soiled linen from the soiled linen rooms to the laundry, as necessary to ensure the quality of care to the patients/residents.
- Responsible for maintaining organizational facilities in accordance with TJC, federal and state, organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform the day-to-day laundry functions as assigned.
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
- Coordinate daily laundry services with nursing service when performing routine assignments in resident living areas.
- Perform assigned tasks in accordance with established laundry procedures.
- Coordinate routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing service.
- Collect and sort linen, garments, etc., and separate those items that require special stain removal/treatment.
- Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping; and posting appropriate Safety Signs prior to cleaning.
- Fold, count, stack, wrap, and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., to residents daily, and/or as instructed.
- Keep walls clean by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc.
- Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from equipment/floor surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
- During emergency conditions, assure that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., are distributed to designated areas as instructed.
- Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
- Monitor supply needs.
- Cross-train with housekeeper job duties as you may be required to assist as necessary.
- 20. Turn in all found items to your manager.
Requirements
Minimum Level of Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Formal Training: None required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: None required.
Work Experience: One to three months experience is preferred as a laundry worker; or related work in the healthcare or related industry.
