Ocean Pricing Specialist
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct working relationship with steam shipping lines, co-loaders, and trucking companies
- Working knowledge of steam shipping line contacts and ability to negotiate best rates
- Provide pricing support for customers, EFL global network, and 3rd parties including: Ocean Export/Import, Warehousing, and Trucking
- Ensure timely response to all emails, leads, rates, bids, tenders, and other requests within agreed-upon standards
- Negotiate with steam shipping lines/co-loaders, truckers, and other service providers for best-in-class rates and service
- Analyze market and industry trends for overall price effectiveness
- Meet all rate request deadlines
- Follow up on all quotes as assigned
- Work on day-to-day ad-hoc procurement of ocean freight requests for assigned USA offices, Global Regions (offices & agents), and USA assigned accounts
- Work on day-to-day ad-hoc requests for trucking, warehousing, trans-loads, and customs house brokerage (CHB) for assigned USA offices, Global Regions (offices & agents), and USA accounts
- Work closely with the Routing Team in HKG and origin office teams to confirm spot pricing to secure space for accounts as assigned by management
- Work as directed by management on special project requests
- Serve as backup to Ocean Freight Analyst on rate sheet creation and submissions
- Serve as backup for other Ocean Freight Specialists when on PTO, as needed
- Fill out weekly Quote to Booking Tracking report
- Become proficient at using carrier (Ocean Carrier/NVOCC/Trucking) web tools to procure pricing
- Become proficient at using rate management systems for generating quotes to clients
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2–3 years Freight Forwarding/Logistics experience
- Proficient use of CargoWise a plus
- Three years of experience in a role involving extensive client contact required
- Computer skills, including frequent use of MS Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.)
- Familiarity with domestic and international geography including countries and major cities
- Extreme attention to detail, with the ability to predict and circumvent issues before they occur and take corrective action
- Ability to be highly productive while keeping cool under pressure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Technically savvy
- Fluent in English
