Food Service Team Lead - Naval Medical Center Portsmouth - Portsmouth, VA - Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for part-time Food Service Team Lead who will assist the mess attendant supervisor in overseeing the day-to-day operation in the dining facility. Assigns employees to their respective positions in the dining facility giving basic instructions and guidance. Works along with employees filling in where needed. Provides support to disabled workers assigned to the dining facility. Be able to work a flexible schedule that may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and periods of inclement weather.
The position must be filled by an individual with a documented disability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set up scullery and pot and pan room; wash dishes, pot and pans and other cooking utensils
- Sweep and mop floors
- Bus and clean tables
- Clean kitchen and dining areas, refrigerators, cooking equipment
- Clean restrooms
- Set up the serving line before the meal period and breakdown/clean the serving line after the meal period is over
- Follow all procedures and safety regulations
- Promptly report accidents, critical incidents, and/or injuries
- Work as a part of a team
- Take directions and follow the Supervisor's directions
- Accept feedback on performance and be able to correct any deficiencies noted
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:
The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in government or commercial food service
- Clearance through criminal background investigation and pre-employment drug screening required
- Must be able to obtain a food handler’s card
- Must have reliable transportation Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be free of communicable diseases, including tuberculosis in a communicable form
- Must be able to exert considerable effort, frequently lifting/moving up to 50lbs, bending, reaching, and squatting
- Must be able to stand for four or more hours
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a commercial kitchen with potential exposure to hazards typical to this environment. The noise level in the work environment is loud with frequent interruptions.
