The John Wood Company is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer to sit in our Oaks, PA office.
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm.
Starting salary- $95,000-$110,000.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will develop plans for special machines and automated processes while working with the customer to conceptualize, mechanically design, develop operational profiles and oversee the fabrication of specialized machinery and automated processes. The Mechanical Design Engineer will take the engineering lead in project tryout and resolve mechanical problems with shop personnel.
Responsibilities
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering engineering results that include the following:

The Mechanical Design Engineer will take the engineering lead in project tryout and resolve mechanical problems with shop personnel.
Responsibilities
- Create design concepts, prepare layouts and detailed drawings, in compliance with all customer requirements and specifications including required delivery schedule.
- Select items per company standards to incorporate into the project and assure job materials are ordered to support required delivery time frame(s).
- Confer with shop personnel to resolve design and associated manufacturing problems.
- Lead and document progress of jobs as they are being executed.
- Verify the job and any authorized changes are being manufactured as designed and to company standards.
- Take engineering lead in project tryout and resolve mechanical problems with the shop.
- Leads interactions with the customer and sales team to set agenda for run-off.
- Give approval for final shipment once job has been given final review.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering engineering results that include the following:
- Successfully execute (on time, on budget) mid-sized projects from inception to delivery while being involved and assisting with troubleshooting of issues.
- Create all required models, assembly and detail drawings, and BOM’s for a given project.
- Be able to independently size and specify servo systems.
- Understand and be able to design and specify pneumatic and hydraulic systems, as well as understand sensor(s) used in a particular application.
- Become the ‘go to’ in house expert for some area (e.g. Solidworks Motion, robotics applications, CAD/CAM, hydraulics troubleshooting etc.

- B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or A.S. and 2-5 years related experience.

- 3D CAD/CAM experience (Solidworks experience preferred).
- Experience with pressure vessels and the plumbing industry
- Experience with manufacturing utilizing tool steels
- ASME Certified
- Previous project management experience including direct customer interface desired but not required
