Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Business Manager/Production Manager, the Development Manager is responsible for leading the planning, developing and organizing of all Eight O’Clock Theatre fundraising, marketing and community outreach. This responsibility includes annual campaigns, production sponsorships, corporate partnerships, endowments, special events, production marketing and community engagement. The position requires occasional evening and weekend work during the mainstage season and in conjunction with periodic fundraising events.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising and Development
· Strengthen and diversify the fundraising program by expanding Eight O’Clock Theatre’s donor base (corporate, individual, foundation, government).
· Cultivate and retain long time patrons and current list of donors.
· Use innovative strategies and creative ideas to identify and cultivate new prospects.
· Develop scheduled donor correspondence and manage creation and execution.
· Craft strategies to leverage Eight O’Clock Theatre’s activities and events to promote greater donor/sponsor and volunteer participation.
· Plan and implement strategies to generate financial support by identifying, researching and soliciting private/corporate foundations and federal/state funding sources.
· Write and edit grant proposals in collaboration with the Business Manager/Production Manager.
· Establish grant calendar including proposal and reporting deadlines.
· Plan and execute special events throughout the year, including but not limited to community outreach, opening nights, fundraisers and member/cultivation events.
· Oversee the administration of the auction for the annual fundraiser, including assisting with item acquisition and pre/post-event acknowledgement and fulfillment.
· Facilitate, engage and support the Board of Directors to meet fundraising goals.
· Maintain meticulous record-keeping procedures to track current and prospective donors and accurately report all fundraising income.
Marketing and Communications
· Operate as a liaison for facility and foundation management with the Business Manager/Production Manager.
· Research and plan advertising strategies for each mainstage production.
· Oversee and disseminate the creation of marketing materials, including brochures, playbills, digital marketing/e-newsletters, billboards/banners, signage, slideshows and press releases.
· Establish social media plan and delivery timeline.
· Facilitate the distribution of audition notices to mailing lists and publications.
· Regularly check the P.O. Box and respond to necessary communications.
General
· Acquire show rights and performance materials for the mainstage season.
· Carry out administrative work generated by the above activities.
· Participate actively in the life of the theatre including, as needed, during load-in and strike of performances.
Required Qualifications
· Minimum Bachelor’s degree.
· Passion for the arts and commitment to the mission of Eight O’Clock Theatre.
· Strategic thinker and persuasive communicator who understands the value of relationships.
· Strong computer skills with proficiency in all Microsoft Office, Google and Dropbox applications.
· Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in oral and written forms. Successful public speaking experience.
· Highly organized with excellent attention to detail. Flexible, collaborative, self-motivated and a fast learner.
· Ability to participate in physical labor, including but not limited to reaching, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladder, pushing/pulling and lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds.
· Knowledge of fundraising in the Tampa Bay area is a plus.
