*This position will be in training with the current Camp Director for the 2025 camp session.
Essential Function of the Job
Responsible for the overall general management and operation of the camp and exposing the participants to safe, fun, and impactful outdoor-oriented activities. This includes activities that individuals from low-income households may not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in. Develop skills and replicable activities that can be used in their everyday lives.
Examples of Work

- Meet with representatives of EightCAP, Inc. and Greenville Optimist Club to organize and set up the camp program.
- Develop and ensure implementation of camp operating procedures including but not limited to the camp handbook, camper safety, staff safety, emergency procedures, and others.
- Ensure all Camp operating requirements are met and licenses obtained.
- Assist in the recruitment of all counselors and staff.
- Supervision of all camp staff, including evaluations.
- Plan, organize and conduct a full week of Pre-Camp Training for the staff.
- Make all staff work schedules for daily activities, clean-ups, food preparation, evening activities, laundry, tent groups, etc.
- Recommend and arrange for the purchase of all necessary supplies for the holding of camp activities.
- Responsible with the purchasing of food and supplies.
- Accept responsibility for the health and safety of all campers and counselors.
- Responsible for operating camp within guidelines of budget, as determined by supervisor
- Hold staff meetings at the end of each day. (Hold: An In-Service Training, Weekly Staff Meetings, and Bi-Weekly Topic Seminars)
- Periodic Drills of all Emergency Procedures.
- Greet all parents and answer all questions in an attentive and a cooperative manner.
- Develop and oversee process for camper registration and check-in.
- Evaluate the camp program and facilities at the end of camp, and make recommendations to EightCAP, Inc. And to the Greenville Optimist Club
- Keep the Optimist Club informed of camp facility needs.
- Prepare a final camp report including (1) the director evaluation and description of the camp activities, (2) suggestions for improvement and (3) the names, ages, demographic information, and Special Service Eligibility Area of campers.
- Attend and coordinate meetings of the Camp advisory board (held year-round)
- Prepare grant and funding requests and solicitations for camp operating funds; participate in the coordination of fundraising events.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements of Work
- Knowledge of camp program licensing and operating requirements.
- Ability to supervise staff.
- DHS Clearance and a satisfactory review of Criminal History background check.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Desirable Minimum Training and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, or related field.
- Experience in general camp management.
