Position:  Early Head Start (EHS) Home Visitor               

Classification: HS 01-04*  ($18.83 - $19.68 - $20.89 - $22.09*)                                          

Hours: 40/Week                             

Work Weeks: 52 Weeks/Year                                                        

Immediate Supervisor: 0-5 Head Start Education Coordinator                                         


Essential Function of the Job:

Under the supervision and direction of the 0-5 Head Start Education Coordinator, the EHS Home Visitor is responsible for ensuring the provision of services to enrolled children, pregnant women, and their families as required by the Head Start Program Performance Standards. In addition, the EHS Home Visitor provides for the delivery of developmentally appropriate information and activities for children ages 0-3 and their families through collaboration, planning and implementation of playgroups.

 

Examples of Work:

  1. Conduct weekly, 90-minute home visits with EHS children and their families. 
  2. Implement the curriculum, supplements, screenings and ongoing assessment to fidelity. 
  3. Review and evaluate child outcomes reports from MyTeachingStrategies® and use data to develop individual child goals. 
  4. Evaluate children’s progress towards meeting school readiness benchmarks by utilizing information gathered from MyTeachingStrategies®, ASQ, and DECA, as well as monitoring observations and attendance records. 
  5. Complete developmental screenings and ongoing assessment of children within required timeframes. 
  6. Collaborate with families to establish and work towards family goals, and document this collaborative process in family partnership agreements (FPAs). 
  7. Assist families in identifying their strengths and in accessing needed support services and community resources. 
  8. Monitor and respectfully educate parents on their child’s health status in the areas of medical follow-up, physical health, dental health, mental health, and nutritional health. 
  9. Successfully complete hearing and vision screens and submit required information to the Health Assistant, as required. 
  10. Collaborate with the Practice-Based Coaching team to implement teaching practices that lead to positive outcomes for children. 
  11. Work collaboratively with Home Visitors, families, and community partners to plan and implement playgroup activities that incorporate the individualized goals of children and families. 
  12. Develop and maintain working relationships with professionals in the community who provide services to children ages 0-3. 
  13. Conduct evaluations of playgroups, compile results, and utilize information that is gathered to make improvements, as necessary. 
  14. Actively participate in trainings, meetings, committees and community organizations, as directed by supervisor. 
  15. Recruit eligible participants for the 0-5 Head Start Program.
  16. Communicate regularly with the 0-5 Head Start Education Coordinator. 
  17. Complete all required paperwork and data entry with accuracy and timeliness. 
  18. Generate in kind and complete necessary documentation. 
  19. Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to the Confidentiality Policy at all times.
  20. Other related duties as assigned.


Requirements of Work

  1. Knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards, child development, and early childhood education best practices. 
  2. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff, families, agency representatives, and community organizations. 
  3. Capacity to problem solve, handle crises, and work with families and children of various cultures from low-income backgrounds. 
  4. Approach to working with families that is empathic, nonjudgmental, respectful, and professional.

 

Required Minimum Training and Experience

  1. A minimum of a home-based Child Development Associates (CDA) Credential; or an Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a child-related field (i.e. Elementary Education, Child Guidance/Counseling, Child Psychology, Family Studies or Social Work) with equivalent coursework. 
  2. Complete the Family Service Credential Training within eighteen months of hire. 
  3. Demonstrate competency to plan and implement home-based learning experiences that ensure effective implementation of the home visiting curriculum and promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework. 
  4. Current First Aid, Infant/Child CPR Certification, Bloodborne Pathogens, Safe Sleep and SIDS Training. 
  5. A Satisfactory review of Criminal History Check and DHHS Clearance. 
  6. A valid Michigan driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. 
  7. An initial health examination (that includes screening for tuberculosis) and a periodic re-examination (as recommended by health care provider or as mandated by State or local laws).


* In order to be eligible for H.S. 04 level, you must have a Bachelor’s Degree OR an Associate’s Degree with five or more years as an Early Head Start Home Visitor.
