Classification: HS 01-04 ($17.44 - $18.60 - $19.68 - *$20.89)
*To be eligible for HS 04, you must hold a bachelor’s degree in a field related to your

Role Overview
As a Family Service Worker, you are responsible for the enrollment and case management of
families in the 0-5 Head Start program. Provides support to families to help identify their own
strengths and needs. Works closely with center staff.
Key Responsibilities
1. Collaboration: Develop and maintain professional relationships with families and
encourage respectful, ongoing two-way communication while supporting families in goal
setting, family needs, and health requirements. Participate in parenting group meetings and
other family activities.
2. Enrollment: Enroll eligible children for the 0-5 Head Start program, ensuring vacancies are
filled within required timeframes. This includes obtaining required documents from
families.
3. Attendance: Monitor individual child attendance. Provide parents with information about
the importance of regular attendance and partner with them to address barriers in
attending.
4. Recruitment: Actively recruit for the 0-5 Head Start program.
5. Compliance: Maintain caseload of families supporting goal setting, family needs, and
health requirements.
6. Community Connection: Awareness of local services, resources, and referrals to share
with families.
7. Communication: Communicate regularly with teachers, home visitors, and 8CAP support
staff to promote effective case management.
8. Substitute: Fill in as substitute caregiver for 0-5 Head Start classrooms or buses, as
needed.
9. Professional Development: Participate in ongoing, required training.
10. Perform Other Duties as Assigned.

Qualifications
• Associate degree in social work, family studies, or human services OR a Child Development
Associates (CDA) OR an associate degree in a related field with a minimum of three years
professional experience in a human service agency. Must obtain (in-house) Family Service
Credential within 18 months of hire.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and program databases.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• A valid Michigan driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• A criminal records background check, including fingerprint check.
