About the Role:
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer in Austin, TX to contribute to the design and refinement of specialized equipment for our autonomous vehicles. You will also work to optimize manufacturing processes, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and play an integral role in prototype assembly and testing. Your work will have a direct impact on the performance and reliability of our autonomous systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and improve add-on components and supporting systems that integrate with self-driving vehicles and delivery robots.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and refine workflows for the production of hardware components.
- Contribute to R&D efforts for next-generation hardware solutions, supporting new features and operational requirements.
- Participate in assembling prototypes, including 3D printing and on-vehicle testing, to validate and improve hardware designs.
- Perform product testing to meet high standards of reliability, safety, and quality.
- Design hardware solutions that enhance fleet operations and improve infrastructure capabilities.
What We’re Looking For
- CAD Proficiency: Strong skills in SolidWorks (SolidWorks PDM experience is a plus).
- 3D Printing Experience: Proficiency in additive manufacturing. Hands on experience from design to printing and testing.
- Manufacturing Expertise: Experience with CNC machining, sheet metal work, additive manufacturing, casting, and composite materials, with a solid understanding of manufacturing constraints.
- Hands-On Skills: Comfortable using hand and power tools and capable of assembling components and devices independently.
