Direct Support Professional
Location: Succasunna, NJ
Looking for a Creative and Compassionate Direct support professional interested in teaching, spending time, and working with a young man with autism living at home with his family. The goal of the work is caring for his well-being, showing him the wonders of our world using natural opportunities, increasing his curiosity, communication skills, and level of independence in life skills.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Engage in activities/listening/conversation.
- Teach functional communication skills and adult living skills. (Exercise, walks, books, etc.)
- General Supervision.
- Basic food and material preparations.
- Ensure safety, health, and a clean-living environment.
- Able to help with transportation when needed.
Qualifications:
- Affectionate.
- Ability to be playful and engaging.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Experience with individuals who use signs or are willing to learn
- Reliable and Responsible.
- Candidates would be able to spend time with the autistic individual in the community after an initial period of getting to know him.
Requirements:
- Training will be provided.
- The employee must be willing to have a background check and drug screen done.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Job Type: Part-time/Full-time
Pay Rate: $20.00
Schedule: Expected Hours: 6-20
- Weekday Mornings and late afternoons- evenings (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays preferred.
- Session length 2 hours or longer
- Some flexibility with the time and schedule
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
Experience:
- Developmental disabilities: 1 year (Required)
- Work experience with signs and communication
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Required)
Work Location: In person.
